Practice makes perfect! Using different mediums is helpful to decide how you will achieve your desired result. I love the instant gratification of markers, the simplicity of watercolor and the endless possibilities with acrylic paint. In the Watermelon Workshop we create watermelons using these materials. Each medium yields a different effect and the experience is such a great opportunity to learn and grow as an artist. *For your convenience I have included affiliate links to my favorite products available on Amazon. Watermelon Worksheet

Plan, play and practice creating your own unique watermelon design. Print as many worksheets as you have people to create with or design you want to practice. Gather any supplies you have on hand and start creating!

It is time to Start Planning!

The best way to come up with a unique design is to start planning and playing. I love to be able to easily manipulate my design and the best way to do that is to simply cut it out. This is a great activity to involve the whole family. All you need to do is print out the worksheet and gather markers, crayons or colored pencils, scissors and glue. Follow this easy step by step process and consider the questions along the way. And remember, You Are The ARTIST!

How to design your perfect watermelon:

Step 1 - Cut the worksheet in half.

Step 2 - Color in the seeds and cut them out.

  • Do you want your seeds to be solid black or vary in color?

  • Do you want your seeds to appear 3D or flat?

  • What size is best for your unique design.

Step 3 - Color in the watermelon and the rind.

  • How can you make the watermelon look juicy

  • What is the perfect ratio of fruit to rind?

Step 4 - Seed placement

  • Arrange the seeds.

  • Glue seeds into place.

Step 5 - Sign your work and display it for all to see! Use the hashtag #heatheropalstudio so I can see your work!!
